Teluk Kumbar

Housing Projects

Teluk Kumbar is a small fishing village on the southern end of Penang Island. However, in our context, it includes the areas after Bayan Lepas town, and further south towards Sungai Batu, Teluk Kumbar town, and Gertak Sangkul.

Along the road from Bayan Lepas to Sungai Batu, a lot of housing developments ae taking place. Sungai Batu has gone through some changes since 2000. It has transformed from a traditional Malay kampung into a landed residential areas serving as cheaper alternatives to the more expensive Bayan Baru and Batu Maung. Some developments have been seen near Teluk Kumbar town and Gertak Sangkul as well, but most of these areas remain as fishing villages.

Seafood and prawn mee are famous in the areas. They attracted a lot of people from other part of Penang especially during weekend. There are also many beautiful beaches along the coast. Unlike the beaches in Batu Feringghi, most of the beaches in Teluk Kumbar are unknown to the tourists and remain undeveloped.

However, the situation is changing as the Penang Second Link is expected to draw development from Batu Maung further south towards Teluk Kumbar. With the shortage of land for housing development, the Teluk Kumbar area is now a target for housing developers.
